The sea has a way of capturing the imagination.
For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the ocean, not only for its beauty, but for everything that surrounds it. The sound of waves breaking against the shore. The smell of salt carried on the wind. The spray that hangs in the air before a storm. The endless horizon and the feeling that something lies just beyond it.
Some of my favorite memories have been spent standing along remote coastlines as dark clouds gather offshore and the sea begins to change. The wind grows stronger, the waves become restless, and the world seems to grow quieter. While others often seek shelter, I find myself standing at the water’s edge, watching as the storm rolls in and the sea comes alive.
Standing there, it’s hard not to think about everything the ocean holds. Beneath its surface lie forgotten shipwrecks, hidden depths, and stories waiting to be discovered. It has inspired explorers, sailors, fishermen, dreamers, and storytellers for centuries. Entire traditions, songs, and legends were born from lives spent along the water’s edge.
Their experiences became stories. Their stories became songs. Some survived for generations. Others disappeared beneath the tide.
My love of music grew alongside that fascination. From the Celtic and maritime music I discovered as a child to the stories and adventures that filled books, films, and songs, I found myself drawn to worlds shaped by the sea. Not simply because they were about the ocean, but because they carried a sense of wonder, adventure, history, and imagination.
Beneath the Tide grew from those influences.
It is a place where music, stories, history, and imagination meet. Some songs may find their roots along rugged coastlines and storm-tossed waters. Others may wander further afield. Like the tide itself, the journey will continue to change and reshape itself over time.
But the inspiration remains the same: a love of music, a love of the ocean, and the endless fascination with what lies beyond the horizon and beneath the tide.
Wherever the tide may lead.
